Bridge

The Club runs a popular Bridge League nearly every Thursday during the winter. At present over 30 members take part in very friendly, but competitive Bridge.
Each individual is awarded a handicap at the start of the season based on past performance and/or level of playing ability and this is reviewed once during the season.
We play Duplicate Bridge starting at 6.45 p.m. and are usually able to play 22 Boards before finishing at about 10.00 p.m.
Gross and Net scores are recorded for each week and prizes are awarded at the end of the season for the pairs with the highest points scored in both categories. Only the best 12 scores of each pair through the season count for the league.
As there are over 20 opportunities to play during the season, it is not essential to play every week to compete in the league.
New players, individuals or pairs, are always very welcome and Social Membership of the Club is available at modest cost.
    Anyone
interested should contact the organiser for more details.

  • Regrettably the Bridge League was brought to a premature conclusion owing to the need for Social Distancing
Unlike the Football Season, we have accepted that the last League Tables published show the final standings.

This means that John(Ditchfield) and David Ellis have won the Gross League with John (Myler) and Harry Finch as Runners Up, very narrowly pipping Ann and John (Eastwood) to that honour. Ann and John did however have the consolation of winning the Net League, with Stewart Schofield and John(Worsley) as Runners Up, with Margaret McNulty and Ann Brophy, a close third I think that what this shows is that to win a prize, you must have a John in your pair!
    The final tables are below.

Time will tell whether we can get together again before the start of next season, but I hope that I will be able to organise a Prize Presentation Night with a Fun Bridge Competition sometime, when hopefully our Captain will be with us to present the prizes to the winning Johns and their partners.
In the meantime, I hope that we all stay well and healthy and, if you have any friends who are Bridge players, please let them know that they would be very welcome to join us next season

    Keep well
    Geoff
